pikiemikie May 22, 2010 11:21 PM

On the east coast? More specifically the Northeast US? .. I know Daytona is the bomb but are there any other really good ones? Thanks, Mike

Folks like Jerry Kruse and others can speak more about the Northeast than I, but........

The NARBC show in Anaheim is almost as big as the Daytona show.....
I hear the Tinley Park show is great, but I have never been.

Shows here in Texas that are mentionable are the ETHS in Houston and the NARBC in Arlington......NARBC is going to have a Houston show this year as well........

It would be nice to see you in Daytona Mike......You headed down there this year?

The biggest reason daytona is the poop diggity of shows to me is the massive international folks that come in. I never look at buying there because I well honestly rarely buy anything. This year I will have a new snake to pick up at Tinley, but thats about it. Daytona also includes talks, but NARBC has the better auctions.

I am looking forward to NARBC Anaheim, because I love the tinley show. Will be going to Anaheim with hubby so that should be entertaining. Tinley is just a fun show, it could also have to do with the fact that for me it is so close to home.

I have two things planned for sure. Wanna go hit up the San Diego Zoo and say hi to Jeff and then I am going to live my 14 year old rock star wanna be dream and head to venice beach to get a tattoo at my favorite bands tattoo shop. Coming out a few days early and staying with a friend in Pomona. I spose at some point hubby and I will have to meet up with his sister as well who lives in San Diego.

what about the Repticon show in South Carolina?

ChrisErica May 23, 2010 05:27 AM

Hamburg, Pa and White Plains, NY are two good reptile shows in the Northeast.

MikeRusso May 23, 2010 07:41 AM

In my opinion The White Plains, NY show (pictured below) is by far the best herp show in the North East. There is well over 200 tables offering dry goods, rodents, and just about every type of captive bred non-venomous herps out there... Hamburg is also a good show, it's a little smaller than White plains, but still has lots of vendors and if you work with hot stuff or just like to check out hot animals then Hamburg, PA is the show to go to.

White Plains is like a small version of Daytona. Very clean, spacious and top line vendors and an ATM unfortunately LOL. I personally think Hamburg is too small and crowded. Very hard to manuever through crowds if your picking up bedding or a cage etc.

pikiemikie May 23, 2010 06:36 PM

I agree about Hamburg. I have to get out of that place after it get crowded. The quality doesn't seem to be there either.

JYohe May 23, 2010 01:49 PM

I been to White Plains one time and to me it seemed alot smaller than Hamburg.....???....hmmmm.....Hamburg sqeezes over 210 tables in that building.....and alot of people ,dealers, and snakes......they have lizards, food, frogs, etc also but who actually looks at that junk....HAAAAA!!!....

......

the question is ???WHERE do they live/??

to me a good show is an hour drive or less........

I wish there was one within 2 hours of me...Makes deciding which show to go to this year harder than heck. Some are within 4 hours though....
As far as books...depends. I'd be less likely to pick up the average pet store books, but if someone had, you know, Klauber's stuff, or Hubb's books...that might be different.

LOL......An hour or less drive MAY get you into the next county in Texas......hehehe

I always found it strange that folks in the Northeast could drive a few hours and go through multiple states......it takes me 5 hours from my house to his the Texas/Louisiana border....LOL

I like the sign on I-10 in Orange, Texas......When driving over the Sabine River from Louisiana you enter Texas....The first sign you see is the one in Orange that lets you know that El Paso, Texas is just 873 miles away........

I think Borger to Brownsville is about the same distance.......

I go to the Tampa Shows every year. They have some big names and great deals! They are usually held at the State Fairgrounds.

Went to Orlando show yesterday, some really good deals on normal run of the mill animals but thats it. Tampa seems to be a good show but again not much for anything unusual. I will see in June if there is anything to pop up. I did pic up this nice Az Mt King. ( nice lateral stripe down 45% of body)Sorry for the blurry pic

There is one in June and one in Sept. I fear that many snakes will still be hatching by June, so Sept maybe a better show.

When I was up in Mass, I loved going to Whiteplains. Hamburg was good but not as clean looking as White plains. Now that Im in Charlotte, I go to Columbia for their show and Ive become a fan of the recent show here in Concord NC, right outside of Charlotte. I have a friend who goes to Daytona every year and while he likes it, he also tells me all the time that its mostly $$$ designer ball pythonds, boas and not many local or hard to find colubrids, which I love. Columbia and the Charlotte/Concord NC show both have a good variety of animals for sale and thats What I want at a show most of all!

a153fish May 26, 2010 06:11 PM

I found Daytona to have just about anything you could want. You just have to spend the time searching for it. I will say the prices are a bit higher than most of the smaller shows but that's prabably cause tables are about 300.00.
