Kunashir Rat not well

monklet May 23, 2010 06:39 PM

My climacophora has been seeming really weak in the last 4 or 5 weeks and it's not getting better. He's in shed right now and becoming very limp...everything else looks good, its just like he's losing the strength to move or coil. He ate 42 days ago but has since refused. Bummer, he is an awesome animal and has been a great pet for the brief time I've had him. He's at least 10 years old though and maybe just checking out.

Has anyone else had a snake do that, e.g., just get really weak and limp?

Yes and it's realy killing me to not be able to come up with a good asnswer for you.
The best I can do is suggest raising the temp a bit but you've probably already tried that.
Unexplained illness happens and its always frustrating.
I picked up a wild caught redtailed green ratsnake a couple of weeks back that was loaded with parastes and was thin. I treated it and gently brought it weight back to where it should be.
His health was perfect and the sight of his improvement from when I got him to now made me happy and I was starting to think he was ready to mate with my female (which was way worse than him when I got her a year ago).
Everything was now right with him...until the other day when I found him dead???
What the heck???
My wife summed it up saying that but for our best efforts, sometimes its just a cr*p shoot and you can't see it comming.
I'll probably never know what caused it.
Good luck, Mike.

Thanks for the note and sorry for that sudden loss

He has heat/hide options and seems to prefer the cooler side. Maybe it's just age but it really just started happending recently. Doesn't look good at all. I don't think he's gonna make this shed.
