Beware I just received a call from a REP

mike_panic May 24, 2010 10:02 AM

from the show Animal Planet. They received my number from the reporter who wrote the recent Wall Street Journal article in which I was briefly interviewed for. The rep asked me if I would mind being interviewed for the upcoming Fatal Attractions episode which will feature....you guessed it, Boas. Without coming out and saying it word for word, she pretty much told me I would have to say how dangerous these animals are. Anyway, I politely told her no and helped her understand how ridiculous it is to even suggest that these boas are these monster killers. What a joke but since I had her on the phone, I used the opportunity to explain our plight. She was very polite and thanked me for my time. The sad thing is, they'll get someone to do this show for them. They like the politicians, dont care about facts and common sense, they only care about forwarding their agendas. Whatever that may be. Look out folks. Thanks. Mike Panichi

I remember when I first herd animal planet came out and I was thrilled that there was finally a station dedicated to animals. Little did I know then that that station would be dedicated to the politicians and “animal rights groups” to put out false information to persuade others that don’t know any better, what a shame and waste.

Take them up on it and when the moment comes, make a true statement on the hobby, like statistics on how safe the animals really are. How they make great pets, etc, etc. Even if they don't use the clip, get into thier head. That way they feel there in the wrong. Or mabe they are ignorant from the start.

No freaking kidding. I was so PO'd at how they'd gotten by the time I dropped cable.

so in so many words they are not interested in hearing the facts! and truths of these animals they just want you to spread lies and other propaganda to support there own cause wich is ??????? one would think they would want a expert to tell it as it truly is! all this crap really sucks all the fun out of this hobby anymore seems like i spend more time contacting senators offices than enjoying what i love

The media never ceases to amaze me...... Im starting to think that no matter what we do as an industry... our time is numbered.... Between the medias scare campaign... the idiot breeders getting busted for animal cruelty..... and the special interest groups.... were really between a rock and a couple of hard places....... Enjoy them while you got em....

Thanks Mike for passing up your 15 minutes of frame for us.

Good job, Mike. A friend of mine (who breeds burms) went through the same thing a few weeks ago. He asked for some opinions on whether he should do the show or not, and the unanimous conclusion was that no good would come of participating in that dishonest show. The producers have complete control over the final edit, and they told him he would have no say in the final product. I think the best thing we all can do is NOT participate in and NOT WATCH any of these shows. Seems like all the "nature" and/or "science" channels are pushing the agenda.

they could easily misconstrue what you say, if you're careful about it.

If they contacted me, I'd have them come out, I'd wear a shirt that says: "boas are the perfect pet", I'd keep repeating that "a pet boa has never killed or seriously injured a person", etc..

Heck, I might even mention that "animal based channels have put forth TONS of misinformation and propaganda that is entirely wrong!"

I would also lay down a challenge to ANYONE who thought they could go toe-to-toe with me on the issue, and invite the cameras to the debate.

Finally, I would be SURE to have full grown, dwarf boas on hand. You know, animals that are 3-4 feet long and as thick as a candy bar!

They call me, I'll tell them to pack up their cameras and come to my place RIGHT NOW!

Oh, and I'd also have my own camera network recording everything I say, and everything we do. Then if they spin anything, I'd expose the CRAP out of them. I'd take it public, and I would NEVER relent until they make it 100% right (which would take a lot! lol).

Hmm... does this mean I'm passive-aggressive...?? Naaaaahh! lol

Just my thoughts...

I can almost see their finished product.... JB on camera with his shirt blurred out... talking in snippets, edited to say "boas eat people like candy bars"

Funny, but probably true I'm afraid.

If it were me I would not talk to them or answer any of their questions. Animal (Propaganda) Planet has already shown several times now that they are NOT our allies. Do not trust them. What you say will inevitably get taken out of context, misquoted, or edited down into what they want for their agenda, no wait I mean program. They are not interested in the facts or the voices of reason. They are only interested in pushing the AR agenda, as well as fear and sensationalism. THAT is what sells nowadays, sadly.

perfectpredators May 25, 2010 01:47 PM

that is perhaps the craziest thing yet ive heard regarding how hellbent non-herpers are to villainize constrictors. Only good thing is if they do air such a retarded show it could be used against them as proof to people of sensible intelligence. unfortunately the crowds are going to buy the show and all its content hook line and sinker.
