Absolute-April, how is your boa?

How is the sick boa doing?

(I don't know you personally, I did read your post below, can see your compassion for the animal. Now I'm coming to this forum twice a day looking for an update! I do hope all is well.)

Hi Mark,

Thank you for asking. I wish I had better news, I was hoping to get more news before posting because I don't want to be overly optomistic.

I've been giving her 2 hr soaks daily and a baytril pill (with chicken baby food to help it go down). Today she gets her last dose (I'm getting to be a pro at giving a pill to a boa!).

She is deffinetly stronger (I'm taking this as a good sign) but alas has not yet regained motor control, she does't stay on her back when I flip her anymore, but she still cork-screws when trying to move. She is NOT flicking her tongue. I think her glotis is very swollen but my vet didn't seem to think that was an issue at this time.

I left a message for the vet yesterday (Dr Gandolfi) and am expecting a call today. If not, I'll just stop in there on my way home from work. He wants to try another medication due to the fact she's not showing more improvement. I beleive we're trying Flagly next for a possible parasite that may be causing inflamation on the brain? I'll know more later today.

The most important thing is she's still hanging on. I really hope she pulls through.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone that sent and posted well wishes, I trully apprecaite the compassion and concern. I know for the amount of money I've spent on vet bills some people would just say 'you could get 4 more for that price!' but the point is she's a pet (as all my snakes are) and I'm going to do everything I can to try to save her and if nothing else, find out what happened, ensure the rest of my collection is safe and learn from my own mistakes to better my keeping in general.

Some good news through all of this, my currently gravid girl, Vegas, is on 108 days POS, so that's something to look forward to.

Thanks again,
-April

I think most of us have been there with a pet. Good luck, and I hope she pulls through.

Good luck April, I'm hoping for positive things for you.

Dr. Gandolfi.....I know that name....is he in Castro Valley? If he's the same vet I'm thinking of, I've taken a few of my animals there from reptiles to dogs to ferrets. He's a good guy. Anyway, wish you the best of luck.

Keep hanging in there!!

And don't let any negative person disuade you from the course you've chosen. She's your pet and it's totally your choice on how much/far to go with caring for her!!!

Wishing you and her the best!!!
