todays capture

majinchip May 25, 2010 04:47 PM

My girlfriend cornered and trapped my very first wild kingsnake. i gotta give her credit, 2 years ago she wouldn't go near a snake let alone try to capture it. cornsnake therapy works great, buy them a few babies, and they grow to love'em. it's a very black and dull snake, needs a soak and a few meals and then release. if i can figure out how to post pics i will later (advice and instructions welcomed), just got done a 10 hour, 6am start shift doing concrete on the highway.

There should be some extensive explanations that were posted just a few day ago. I don't mean to sound rude it's just that it takes so long to write all the instructions out, and they are already posted in an a couple of earlier threads. Would love to see the pics, Good Luck!

hmm, thanks. didn't know i had them around here. actually the first snake i found in my neck of the woods. down in the pinelands i've found ringnecks, garters and a pine, common water snakes and an occasional hognose but never a rat or kingsnake. i guess my quest goes on.................

Yup, nice black rat snake at that so it appears. As far as giving a soak and a few meals before releasing, I would suggest releasing as soon as possible. You dont want to chance giving your herps any wild caught parasites like mites or some internal bug. On the flip side, you dont want to give the wild snake something from your captives it is not used to dealing with. Its a beaut. Thinking about keeping it?

i have it in a 3' neo in a totally different spot of the house. you're right i don't want to mix with my collection. nah, i'll just let it go. i got lots of moles/voles/mice in my backyard. i need something to control it. now if it was a pine snake............

IF you live in new jersey....don't answer that ......it would be best if you researched the state's wildlife laws before posting pics or making statements........be safe...be legal.....
