Me and a local herper bud have been postulating a theory regarding speckled kings (L.g.holbrooki). There is a stretch of roadway here in Baton Rouge we often road cruise. Usually at night and it seems best to hit it right after a rain. We have found waters, garters, texas rats, cotton mouths, dekay snakes, and my bud even found a mud snake. We have seen DOR specks at night, but the only time my bud has ever found one on that road alive has been early morning. We are starting to wonder if they are not active at dusk/night, and are more prone to be out and about in the early morning or during the day on overcast days. Any one else have any theories on when specks are most active and likely to be seen??
