Couple of pics from the early season...

I've never spent much time in Val Verde County, but I did get down there for a few nights over the last few weeks. In 3 nights, I saw a total of 7 snakes, 5 in Val Verde and 2 in Crockett;

2 lepidus - 1 AOR, 1 on shoulder
1 DOR suboc - very large 5'+
1 DOR atrox
1 DOR micrurus tener

2 AOR atrox

The Texas Coral was a first for me, so doubly depressing that this was another victim of the sanctuary. This snake was appx. 2'.

Nice John. We also found a lep and a coral in Val Verde last weekend. Both were alive on cuts. Didn't get a pic of the coral. It was a 10in. juvenile climbing on a cut and slipped into a hole after a few minutes of watching it. the lepidus was at the base of a cut and got a few pics before it too slipped into a hole in the cut. here is a pic of the lep. Because we followed the law all our shots are insitu and we missed some photo ops like the coral because we didn't bring any equipment to catch anything.

is one allowed to manipulate DORs???

jcraft75 May 28, 2010 04:32 PM

Bob,

My understanding of this is DORs may be collected, I think this was brought up in regards to collecting for specimen records. As a matter of fact, I believe that removal of DORs should be encouraged, as to not highlight the failures of the sanctuary. Since they are dead they are not huntable. Well, unless you put them in an easter egg...

how 'bout a potential DOR???.....you know a snake on the road??.....just joking, dude...

I'm trying to make permission to collect DORs (salvage) the default for all SRPs. It would be a shame to miss out on all that data. This is the best I can do under the current regulatory situation.
