OT: The End of an Era

So I've been keeping snakes for 2.5 years now. My first was a ball python rescue that I still have. I now have 13 snakes of different species and love them all. I had an adult female ball that was absolutely insane. As soon as I'd open her tub, she'd fly out at me striking like crazy. Never bitten by her though. I've been very good at judging when a snake looked angry and avoided being bitten. As a matter of fact, I've never been bitten by any of my snakes in all the time I've kept them. That was the case until last night. I was cleaning my new additions cage. A Jungle Carpet male that I picked up at the Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo this month. I picked him up and he seemed alright. Then I went to put my other hand under his head and WHAM!!! HE BIT ME!!! Oh well! I guess all good things must come to an end. I still love him though!!! Here he is...

LOL, welcome to the club. I've lost count of how many times I've been bitten... Especially by the balls when they were babies. Had several little nippers... They don't bite anymore unless I don't get their rats into the bins fast enough on feeding day and they decide my hand will do as an appetizer. As for carpets, that just goes with the territory. And they have a crazy big strike range so can get you from pretty far away...

Yeah, most not being bitten streaks come to an end. Especially when you dont expect it. Arboreal species hurt worse and go deeper. I had green tree pythons and they thought biting me was an extracuricular activity. LoL. They bruised my hand one time because they bit me on my wrist and hit the veins.

Well he is a good looking snake but that is why they call then snakes. Just like a person you would refer to as a snake, You never know when they are gonna bite you.

I am going on 5 years now and have not been tagged by a ball python..(knock on wood)..lol. How ever I was shanked by a 6 foot ret tail on my hand....*sigh* I was de-shedding her in the bath tub and when I went to pick her up by the mid section she swung around with her mouth wide open....At first I felt relieved that I was faster than her until I looked at my hand...LMAO!!..haha. It's just AMAZING how fast they are!
