odds question

joerdng May 26, 2010 05:42 PM

So I bred a pastel male to a super reduced normie girl, and got eight eggs. All the eggs were good, and ended up with two pastels and six normies.about half the litter had the reduced spider looking thing going on,and one of the pastels got it too.I guess my question is why only two pastels?Do you think the black back thing had something to do with it?thanks joe

You only got two because those were your odds. Just because it says 50% should be pastel doesn't mean it always falls out that way, you could breed pastel to normal get bad luck and have no pastels at all. On the flip side has great luck and only get pastels.
Luck of the draw, it's what makes the hobby constantly interesting.

Bad luck, but its better then none.

It's like pulling a random card out of a deck of cards.
You have a 4 out of 52 shot of pulling any card...king, queen, jack etc. (Ignoring jokers)

You just got crappy odds. That's it.
I just hatched a 5 egg clutch...4 were pastel. That would be awesome if 3 of the 4 weren't males. I lucked out on pastels, crapped out on females.

It's all just a role of the dice...at least with single visual codoms. Now if you had a super pastel...all your babies would be pastels.

As far as the # of morphs or normals in a clutch, you have just as good statistical chance of getting all normals as getting all Pastels.

You need to talk to "brhaco" Brad about having taken your odds. He bred a Spider to a Normal and got 14 good eggs. 9 Spiders and 5 Normals.. All 9 of the Spiders were female!!!!. Ok so I'm just kidding about all of the 9 being female. Like everyone else has said the odds are just a luck of the draw thing but statistically when using 2 different codoms or doms your odds are 50/50 out of 100 of getting half and half.

Not a whole lot to say here except for the others are right. You get what you get and that's it. Not trying come off as an a--hole. You had eight eggs and they all hatched. You should be excited that your hard work payed off. I can't wait until I start breeding and get to watch them hatch out. Good luck!!

zippy00_99 May 27, 2010 05:06 PM

Odds from mojave to mojave breeding are as follows;
25%-normals
50%-mojaves
25%-Blue Eyed Lucys

Brian Gundy had 5 eggs from a mojave to mojave.

3-Lucys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2-normals.

I had 5 eggs from mojave to mojave and I got

1-normal
3-mojaves
1-Lucy

So I hit EXACT odds, and Brian hit super great odds.

That is what makes this hobby so fun. Be patient and you'll get "yours".

Hey this was my first shot at the balls,I ended up with two pastel girls from my first litter..fn stoked.not complaining at all just trying to understand. thanks all

kingofspades May 27, 2010 11:23 PM

Now just don't do what I did...and sell or trade them...

My first season I got 10 babies...
1 male pastel
5 female pastels
1 male normal
3 female normals

I traded a male and female pastel to a friend for an Ipod touch.
I sold one female pastel...
and traded the rest for a spider male...which was STUPID.
(I was excited and gullible...and it was the first time I'd seen a spider in person...)

I figured I'd get more female pastels the next season.

Wrong.
I got two clutches. 4 eggs in one (two went bad, two went to term but were kinked into a ball...both pastels...)
the other clutch was 5 eggs...2 male pastels, 3 normals.

So needless to say...when I got 4 pastels this season...but 3 were males...I was upset, but happy to at least get ONE female.
I'm holding on to her for dear life...

If I had held on to ONE of those female pastels from my first season, I'd be making super pastels or pewters this year. Instead I have to wait two more years...at least...

Oh I know better lol..females are gold. They are still in blue and I have had a few good offers on both.wonder why balls are usualy boys and my boas throw mostly girls?I have another clutch in the bator at 50 days now.Cross my fingers for two fem spiders...thanks guys

jaymiller242 May 30, 2010 02:03 AM

Yup, keep all of your girls until you have as many as you can possibly handle. All of my Normal girls are breeding size and about 30% of my Morph females are breeding size so I want to replace all the Normal females with my Morph females as they come up to breeding size and hopefully then be able to get rid of all but about 4 to 6 of my Normal girls. You still need to keep a couple of Normal females in your collection. Good luck on the Spiders too. Jay from Sunny AZ.

>>Now just don't do what I did...and sell or trade them...

I know what you mean. I have been working with someone on a jolliff snow project for a number of years now. Our female albino het snow was being a picky eater, etc. so as a back up plan in 2007 we bred our male axanthic ph snow to my normal female. 8 eggs - 7 of which were females! All 7 pdh snow girls were bred this year back to their father (wouldn't ya know it.. our albino had no interest in the axanthic this year lol). I did the right thing by NOT caving in and selling off some of those extra pdh girls... I mean the odds of the male being a het were 50/50 at best and then his daughters were even lower and space was limited.

you want to talk about hitting the odds perfect on the very first try...

8 eggs: 1st snake to hatch was a SNOW. Also in the clutch 1 normal pdh snow, 3 axanthics ph snow, 2 albinos het snow, and 1 PARADOX albino het snow!

We proved that the axanthic father was in fact a het snow. It could have ended just as badly in that he wasn't a het snow and our girls were nothing more than het axanthics.

No I don't think anything on the Moms side would effect only getting 2 pastels . Ive had clutches with only one ,and have it be a male at that..I'd like to see a Picture of Mom and see if it looks like One I have here.. She throws babys just like herself, and the combos come out as som e of my best looking reduced Bee's ...LemonBlast and what ever You breed to Her this Year I though another reduced pattern Bee on Her so I'm hoping theses are just Dinamoe.. The Mom has something going on, Everything out of Her is always reduced.. I hope to pass a few males past this females the FIREFlies and KillerBees and SuperSpinnerblast will be out of this world.. She looks like a super clean Woma. I'll post some pictures of her so You can conpare thier looks..
