Mandarin incubation

metalpest May 27, 2010 12:03 AM

What substrate works best for mandarin rat eggs, perlite or sphagnum moss? And at what temperature?

Thanks

I've used a mix if pearlite and vermiculite and incubate at about 75 degrees for a few years now with great results. Straight pearlite is great too.

Yep, we use straight perlite.

Is there a problem with straight moss in general? I've got my first eggs ever on straight moss...they look fine so far after about 30 days with moderate moisture???

Thanks guys. I thought I'd heard something about using moss on old world rats, but for now I'll stick to the perlite. I should probably move them to a lower temperature though, going to have to start up a new incubator.
