Color Changes

ogfsnakes May 27, 2010 10:38 AM

I have a CBR and noticed her color changes. I found one reference to the process of metachrosis. I have been seeing all of the posts and discussions about snake colors (not many on CRBs) and was wondering if the other Rainbow species do this as well?
The Pics show my Alice, the photos were take an 1 1/2 hours appart.

All of the Rainbow Boa subspecies do this color change to some extent. It is most commonly seen and pronounced on mature females but immature animals and males also do it. We call it night time whitesidewalls or putting on a white nighty because they often make this change to lighter color, especially on the sides in the evening. I do not think this is exactly the same as the metachrosis in Chameleons and Anoles and many frogs because most of them can make a color change much more rapidly than Rainbow Boas.
