If you are still around, how do you paint the scales? Do you paint the core color and then gently add scale lines or do you cut in each scale individually? I'm getting ready to paint and Albino Ball Python with oil.

TIA!

if you look closely you will see that i did not paint each scale. i suggested the scales instead. carefully select any details you are going to add but do not add more than you need. when you do paint specific scales make sure they are in proportion to the snake and that they are in the correct angle. if you outline each scale it will not look natural. suggest the shapes with the paint.

Very cool! I did an oil painting of a ball that looks very similiar to the one you did for the magazine. The hardest part is getting them to hold the same pose for hours at a time...

That is sweet! This will be my first reptile oil and the scales stumped me.
