Orange on C. Pectinata

cyclosaura May 27, 2010 03:40 PM

I caught this C. pectinata here in south florida last year. He is now starting to change colors from black to white and orange. I was wondering if anyone had ever seen pectinata with orange on them. He is starting to get alot of bright orange spots around his neck. Theses are not mites! but in fact his actual color and I just wanted to see if anyone had seen anything similar. It is very hard to capture the orange coloration on my camera phone but it is mostly around his neck and some along his back.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm having trouble uploading the pictures. I can email them though. He is just starting to get his white coloration and I would say the orange is a little stronger than the one in your picture. That one is gorgeous. Im excited to see how his colors turn out. The orange is only developing in small blotches where the white is showing.

Yeap, I wanted to be sure that it was a Pectinata. There is a lot of confusion between Similis and Pectinata. Based on the countless amounts of Pectinatas I've caught, the orange around the neck will eventually become a beige color with pinkish highlights. But there could be so many color variations that you realy won't know until a couple of years from now when he matures into his adult color and pattern. Here is a pic of another one I caught last year.

oh ok, I was just curious to see whether anyone had caught any from the miami location that were showing any signs of orange. I've only gone once and I have 2 males but my other male is large and looks more or less like the one in your photo that you caught last year. Have you bred them yet? Thanks for the info. I have checked out all your pectinata pictures in the photos section. Very nice stuff. I hope to maybe catch a banana phase one day too
