breeding failure for first timers

basinboa May 28, 2010 08:24 AM

Ok so I decided to breed my 3 year old couple BRB this year. They have been cycled for the last couple months and have been introduced since around 2 weeks.

I saw no breeding activity so far. Is it normal for them to fail in the first year?

It does happen, I had a pair of 2.5 year old BRB's together last year - nothing, same pair this year and have seen visual copulation so clearly something is happening there. How heavy is your female?

Clearly the one in the pic is unfertile, you can send it here and I will find it a good home.

Gorgeous BRB!!!

Thanks for the compliements!
Those rainbows are CBB but their parents came from a very remote region here in Brazil, in north of Mato Grosso. The more often seen rainbows are not that red.

The female is in the 2 kilogram range and the male is around 1,5 kilogram.

First, double check the sexes! Second, just because you didn't see them copulate, doesn't mean they didn't! Especially if you've got a hide box fpr both to fit!
