23 Day Old Boas Havn't Shed Yet- Worry?

Marko1 May 28, 2010 08:41 PM

All of my babies have shed except for 2. Have been giving nice warm soaks in the evenings and have the humidity up, they just won't shed. Should I worry? Should I offer food? They look healthy as can be, no worries as far as health, just that damn 1st shed wont come off. Any help or thoughts would be great. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing. I have some babies born 5/8 that have not shed yet.

It seems we have a lot in common, lol. I'm still waiting for 5 of mine to shed and they were born on 4/30. I was wondering the same thing if I should worry or not. I wrote down what day each one shed and here's what I have so far:

5/13 - First one shed
5/14 - 1 more
5/15 - 4
5/16 - 1
5/17 - 4
5/18 - 2
5/19 - 1
5/20 - 0
5/21 - 3
5/22 - 1
5/23 - 0
5/24 - 0
5/25 - 0
5/26 - 1
5/27 - 0
5/28 - 0

4 of the 5 that haven't shed have eaten a f/t fuzzy mouse for me. 10 of the babies total have eaten 1 f/t meal. I have not tried live yet.

You better worry!

I know I do. It's hard to stop worrying and I have no idea how to tell you not to be that nervous Nelly. Baby Boas that do not shed along with everyone else usually turned opaque just like everyone else in the litter but just didn't shed out. They will eventually go into a shed cycle again and many times will shed normally and be just like the other babies that shed on time. Feeding them is just as important as the babies that have shed already. That is a lot more important than shedding on time. If they don't eat then it's time to kick that worry into high gear. Do not hold back on the size of the meals. Feed them as if they did shed.

Most late shedders fair just like normal babies. Sometimes they don't. Only time will tell... until then, by all means... worry worry worry. That's what I do.
