'10 BRBs!

Miloradovich May 29, 2010 04:21 PM

My first litter for 2010 arrived yesterday with 9 little brb neos. It is a smaller litter from my smallest breeder female but I predict these guys will all color up very nicely. Their mom has some awsome adult coloration in my opinion and won the "best boa" award for us at the Rocky Mountain Reptile Expo in January of 2009.

Here are a few pics of some of the babies.

This lone little one was hanging out all by itself while the rest of the siblings were piled up in the opposite corner in the previous picture.

Found along with healthy newborns were also a deformed stillborn that was missing it's lower jaw and a few slugs. Some of the slugs were the normal size and look that I am used to seeing but there were also some very small ones that I have never seen before. Anyone have any insight as to what caused these little tiny ones?

I did not have a due date predicted for this litter but have been watching the new mom closely over the last couple of days because she had moved away from the heat and out of the tight coils she has been spending most of her time in while gravid.

Here is a pic from yesterday of another expectant BRB mother. This is the same female I posted a picture of earlier in the month and she is looking huge lately. If I remember her dates correctly, she should have about 20 more days of cooking her little ones.
She is my oldest breeder BRB and has produced some very nice babies in her past litters.

Thanks for looking, good luck to everyone else with their gravid girls this season and be sure to watch for some post shed pics soon!

Congrats!! Those babies look great!

As for the funny slugs. I bet the smaller ones are ovum that didn't swell. Especially the ones connected with strings. With my egg-laying snakes, I have had bad eggs, and even a couple good eggs come out connected by a string. My guess is that is how they are formed inside, and under normal circumstance the string breaks.

Thanks Aubrey! I am pleased with the way this litter turned out so far.
Unswelled ova was my best guess on the tiny slugs too, just strange as I have never seen anything like them before especially as I have seen way to many slugs for my taste over the last few seasons, lol.
Interesting that you have had bad and good eggs conected like these. I wonder what makes them stay connected like this, even with viable eggs?
