Tropical Skinks

Wort Sep 22, 2003 08:41 PM

I am cosidering buying a skink for my currently vacant 55 gallon vivarium, its set up similar to a dart frog tank so its rather tropical are their any skinks that would do well in higher humidity's and not destroy all the live plants?

They are small, they do love humidity and they dont destroy your plants, they only eat worms and crickets! The only point is the temp. They dont like it higher than 84F!

I agree with Flavia. If you can obtain one, a crocodile skink would be the best way to go in that scenario.

Jean

I have heard that they do and dont need UV lighting. I only have flourescent 48inch strip above the tank. Some say they are burried 3/4 the time in nature so it shouldn't matter. any thopughts? And I'm tight on money.

I don't use UV for mine and they're doing fine. A basking site is required and a comfortable ambient temp in the mid to high 70's. They will however, trash the plants and any pretty features you attempt to introduce.

They are a lot of fun though!
