Need Advice Please - Late Laying

shadylady May 30, 2010 10:38 AM

I need a little advice about a gravid corn.

This is a 2006 female. This is her first clutch.

Breeding dates are 3/12, 3/22, 3/26, 4/5

She last ate 4/1.

She shed April 20 AND May 9.

She is chock full of eggs.

It has been 21 days now since her last shed, and she shows no sign of laying and no signs of distress. The eggs haven't dropped into position.

Do I just wait her out? I've been taking her out a couple of times a day for a little exercise and to rub her belly LOL!

??? Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

If she is showing no signs of stress and isn't restlessly cruising her cage looking for a suitable nesting site, just wait it out. She will lay when she's ready.

make sure she has a suitable lay box and conditions and leave her alone.
Every time you take her out and handle her you could be delaying her lay. They need to feel safe and secure and have the right conditions to lay. You keep handling her she may never feel secure enough to lay and could resorb her eggs.

Thanks. She does have a lay box and has for some time. She is in and out of it, but not restlessly. Actually she is spending more time out lately than in. I have checked it and it is clean and not too dry or wet. Maybe I'll change out the spagnum so it'll be new to her.

I'll take your advice and leave her alone then. I've only been taking her out the past few days.

Unless the moss is too moist I wouldn't worry about changing it.
just keep an eye on her but don't handle her.
Give her a little time and a little peace and I bet she'll do fine.
