devils river GBK

slimlv May 30, 2010 12:23 PM

I picked up a blairs phase gray-banded king in a trade that went bad. This is my first year with GBK's and I have tons to learn. The female I traded for is a male and I don't need him. The guy I got him from wild caught it in 08 on his ranch north of Comstock on the Devils river. Can I sell or trade this snake and use the locale he gave me to name it? I don't have any proof as he tells me that no paper work comes from snakes caught on private land. Any thoughts?

The Devils River area is commonly known for alterna. Your snake could be a legitimate locality specific animal if the original collector has good credibility and is willing to vouch for the animal. May I ask who?

tpclnr May 30, 2010 01:33 PM

My guess here, but the only person that would have acres ON the Devil's river (rolls eyes) and be involved in a bad trade would be Bob Sloan, lol.

Funny, I was thinking of the same person.

The key here is that the original collector has "good credibility".

I thank you all for the help. I have asked the seller,(his name is Chevy), for more info on the ranch it was collected on.He told me in the past, it is his grandfathers ranch. He hasn't responded yet.

CHEVY CHASE???????

slimlv May 31, 2010 06:11 PM

The pic posted looks exactly like the snake I now have. The guy I got it from is Chevy Ford. He had the snake on fauna classified. We never met but I shipped him some milks that I didn't need to his address in Odessa. We have talked a few times via email since. He has been helpful on location of the snake. He tells me that he collected it in 08 around Juno rd. On his grandfathers ranch and is going to give me the name of the ranch this weekend. Thanks for all the input.

I am not claiming to know everybody, but I will speak up and say I have never heard the name "Chevy Ford" before, and unless somebody else around here knows this person there is nothing to hang a reputation on. I will send a PM.

looks like DARTH????.....wow....he's from west langtry....radio tower cut

slimlv May 31, 2010 08:57 PM

When i figure out how, I will post a pic. Must be darths son.

bobassetto Jun 01, 2010 08:51 AM

yo....i've seen a # of snakes from the devil's river region....darth's particular color arrangement & tones.....would not be indicative of this region......but these snakes are extremely variable.....so what i'm saying is you hafta to take a dude at his word....'til you can prove unreliability.....

I know Chevy he is a good guy. If he told me that it was a devils river snake I would believe him. I have delt with him before with snakes and he has never done me wronge. I hunt on a private ranch down there as well and hope to add to collect my own devils river alterna.

Tpclnr Jun 01, 2010 08:07 PM

mister sloan had a bad deal with himself and is now sticking up for himself.

slimlv Jun 01, 2010 10:26 PM

Good to hear. I'm not sure if I over stated the phase "bad trade". I thought I was getting a female and it turned out to be otherwise. I think it was a mistake on his part and he is sorry for it. Rather than burning him on a forum, I was more interested in asking if I could trade or re-sell the snake,(which is an awesome snake), as what he claimed it was on his word.I am overwhelmed with the feed back from all of you and I plan to use ALL the info I get from you guys as I'm new to GBK's . A friend of mine who is a breeder sent me over here because as he said,"These folks are THE pros".If it's cool with you, I will ask for info alot. If not I will join a bowling league or stick with the reps. from the Vegas desert. Thanks again...Slim

That is good to hear, but I have to ask who you are, I am not familiar with your login and noticed that you did not include a name in this first and only post so far.

It is a well known trick for somebody to assume multiple logins to give credibility to things, I just want to be sure that is not happening here.

Well I don't post much. Actually I have only posted once before. I posted a few years back after being bitten by a Mojave down at the Gap. I decided to post due to the fact I know this guy. I wouldn't be trying to help his credibility if I did not know the guy. I'm from Midland and have dealt with a lot of guys from my area. Sorry to chime in and cause any distrust that was not my intention. With all my herping down in the trans pecos, on private ranchs, and never even seeing a alterna maybe I should post more often for luck sake.

slimlv Jun 01, 2010 11:18 PM

I finally got a pic of him loaded. Can seem to get it posted here but it's in the gallery under slimlv GBK. Check it out and tell me what you think.

bobassetto Jun 02, 2010 06:28 AM

WOW......

mzillig Jun 02, 2010 07:06 AM

...he out-Vaders Vader.

I think he takes Vader-ing to a whole new level.

I think I just made Vader a verb.

mzillig Jun 02, 2010 07:21 AM

I think I like him already and I've never even met him. I like him because he looks like he didn't come from a deli cup.

bobassetto Jun 02, 2010 12:01 PM

indeed....we may vaderize the entire alterna subculture....ain't no delicup made that could hold vader or his successor.....this guy needs a name......darth maul ??????....is maul on the block???

slimlv Jun 02, 2010 08:03 PM

I like it. Damn fine name!

lbenton May 31, 2010 05:52 PM

Bob is known to use aliases to pull of "deals" and rip people off, and if he is "Chevy" now that will be a new one.. So I have to ask a couple of questions.

1 - Was the trade done in person? If so I can direct you to pictures of Bob.

2 - If the trade was done with FedEx or some other shipper then in all likelyhood it was not Bob, he would have just taken the money or trade animal and not shipped anything out from his side. But I would assume you would have phone numbers or emails and we could try to run those back and see if they connect to Bob.

Also, what address does this person have, is it a Del Rio address?
