Personally I think males should be at least 18 months old and weigh 1000g or more...but some do breed successfully. I just would feel uncomfortable breeding little males to big females...pictures i have seen of them doing so makes me think if ball pythons were more cannibalistic, many more breeders will find their little 700g males would end up as a light snack for their 4000g females.

As for whether males or females are more successful, or more important to the success rate...I feel its the female. If she's not healthy, at a good weight, old enough etc. she's not going to produce eggs. Or the eggs themselves may not be viable.

if i understood your question your asking if the male or the female determines the sex of the offspring? I don't know that answer.
As for what to breed to, if you get another normal female your going to get normal offspring. I would spring for a visual morph female to breed to. That depends on your personal preference.

the appearance of the clutch depends on the odds. If you breed a pastel to a normal for instance. You COULD end up with all pastels,, all normals or a mix of both. as far as markings or special traits pertaining to your particular snake, that all depends on nature. But most patterns I believe are random.
