Corn sneezing

zeus1228 May 31, 2010 02:05 PM

So, my corn snake is making these sort of sneezing noises. At first i thought they were just minature hisses, but now I really don't think so. What do you guys think?

I really appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,
Stephen

Upper Respiratory Infection. For best results, take the snake to a vet that has reptile experience. Sometimes URIs can be cured by increasing the ambient temperature and/or hotspot temperature - but not always.

That's what I thought, but I was hoping for something better.

Thanks,

There is a slight chance that it could be dust from the substrate. But the vet may be the best way to be sure. What is his set up? Do you have him in Aspen shavings and a heat lamp by any chance?

That is exactly what he is on. I was thinking that as a possibility. His temps, humidity lvls, everything have been the same as normal. The only difference is that I recently changed his bedding and it is kind of dry. Plus, he doesn't sound weezy and his saliva looks normal.

If you have a heat lamp that will dry out his cage even more. Under tank heat is better unless you have a wooden cage. Also give him a small plastic hide with moist spagnum moss to help raise humidity. I bet he spends a lot of time in there. You could even switch to newspaper for a while and see if it helps. But the combination of Aspen and a heat lamp is often too dry. If it persists he will die without Vet care, if what he has is URI. Good luck!
