Docile Texas Rat!!

KevinM Jun 01, 2010 10:12 AM

I went road crusing with a buddy Saturday night and we found a juvie texas rat on the side of the road. It must be a hatchling from last year, no more than a yearling. Its only about 15-18 inches long. Funny thing is it made NO ATTEMPT to bite, tail rattle, or musk when picked up off the road. It was even calm when taken out of the bag and placed in its new home. This is beyond a doubt the most non-offensive texas rat I have ever encountered LOL!! In fact, the only reason I decided to keep it was due to its young age, and the fact it appears so docile. I offered it a f/t fuzzy mouse before I left for work today and I am hoping it ate. Here's hoping it stays calm and also feeds well LOL!!

I snapped a quick pic of it tonight. I didnt want to disturb it too much as it ate a f/t fuzzy mouse this morning!! Nice little guy for sure.

Not ugly at all Kev. I was expecting the usual Texas drab, but he is very handsome. A keeper for sure.

Thanks Jorge. We captured a subadult on the same road/area earlier this spring that was pretty docile as well, plus had quite a bit of orange/straw background coloration between the blotches. Hopefully this guy will color up more as it matures!!
