Some 411 on expos held in TN.

jlsreptiles2011 Jun 01, 2010 04:44 PM

Ok, I sent an e-mail to the TN gov't website concerning expos. They just sent me an e-mail back today. Ooooooo.... Gives me a chill to think there could possibly be an expo held here if people know the correct info. Alright, the guy from the state told me this: If you are going to sale here then it would be a good idea to send in a list via e-mail of what you plan on saleing so if there is anything restricted they could let you know. He told me absolutely no turtles whatsoever due to salmonila poisoning, which is a public health hazard. Another thing is if you want to sale rat snakes, corns, kings and milks then you have to obtain a license to sale, which is $250 for a whole year and a $25 fee for bringing them over the TN border. Along with that before a show you must send the state an inventory of what you are going to sale so they know you are not going to sale something restricted such as turtles or venomous. Venomous carry a heavy fine along with turtles. I don't believe alligators or anything of that nature is allowed. Anything like boas or pythons is game on. No license is needed and I don't believe the $25 fee is valid either. He said it would still be a good idea to send in an e-mail with what you plan on selling(inventory) and if they notice sometging questionable they would call or e-mail you back. I think this is something that should happen and believe there is alot of money to be made even if you are selling colubrids. Let me know what you guys think. I would make sure it got advertised if I know vendors are going to show.

Your laws suck for shows no matter how many timnes you want to post this.

No turtles
no tortoises
no colubrids native or not without permits and releases costing
hundreds of dollars
no crocodillians
no venomous

and then your major cities have constrictor size regulations

It is one of the worst states in the country for vendors. If you want to put on a show there you will get half a dozen vendors with leopard geckos and ball pythons because that is just about all you can legally do.

I don't know where you got your information. Yeah no crocodilians, turtles or venomous. Yeah, you have to buy a license to sell colubrids so what. I talked to the guy today and there was no mention of size limits. If there were I'm sure they wouldn't let the pet stores sell large boas or pythons. I would seriously laugh my butt off if some vendors came and they sold alot. Yeah, people from TN come to expos that are held out out of state, but I bet if vendors came to the state alot more would come and probably pay a little more as well since they saved gas money. If they need any of the stuff you can't sell then give them a card. All you can do is try and if you don't then you will never know. I don't care if you have been here once. Maybe somethings changed. The laws aren't my laws just because I live here. I could give a rats ass what you sold.

you can sell crocs, just so you know. i know several pet stores that sell them. and that colubrid/native license applies to anyone who wants to even own them, unless they can prove they came from a breeder with the proper permits.

Your attitude is really poor. The show that I did as a vendor was in a major city right next door to your largest university and there were less than 10 vendors, no variety of animals could be sold, and nobody came through the door. I have been at shows in MI, OH, PA, IN, ND, SC, NC, FL, NY, GA, VA and more over the past 20 years. Out of the 1200 shows I have been to, the one in TN was in the absolute worst 3 or 4 I have ever been to. You keep talking about how restrictive the laws are and then about how you want shows there. You make no sense. Also if you read, I mentioned that the constrictor size restrictions were city regulations not state.

Yeah, I'm sure my attitude did come off as poor, but coming off like you did towards me didn't help any. You don't have to talk to me like I'm a stooge to get a point across. Just because you don't want to be a vendor at a show here doesn't mean other people shouldn't or don't want to. Sorry about the attitude earlier, but I would like to go to an expo without going out of state. Hope there aren't any hard feelings.

sounds like you really need to travel for shows...PA is still pretty well unrestricted for now....no natives but other than that ...it's open......come on up....

the ONLY way you could have a show in TN it sounds is to trade all our stuff for moonshine?...we come ,you trade, we leave....you sell our stuff...I mean your stuff...???...

how many gallons you got?....

....really....good luck.....travel.......

Yeah, I'd rather go to PA, OH, or MI and watch nobody buy my corns for $10 then go to TN and pay $300 in permit costs to watch nobody buy my corns for $10.....

JYohe Jun 03, 2010 06:35 PM

$5..........LOL......

and this is why.I will be selling adult corns in a week and 2 days from now.....really...and all kinds of other adults....

.....time to clean out and downsize.....!...

It is unfortunate that TN laws are so strict, but bottom line is no one has had a sucessful show in TN.As a show promoter I would not gamble on TN either.
