HELP!!!! PLEASE!!!

ladyball Sep 22, 2003 09:47 PM

I am going to call the vet tomorrow, but PLEASE help me! I posted about dry, patchy skin. IT IS NOT A SHED PROBLEM!
Her belly is pink, she is going into a shed, but her scales on her belly are seperating. She has patches ALL over, and her eyes were occluded yesterday and are slightly clearer today. Also her high orange color has turned VERY dark! She is dry feeling, although her body looks hydrated. The tank humidity is reading over 60%! It has gone up the past few days. I have bathed her, but it doesn't seem to be helping.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER?!?! My other two balls (who are housed with her) are okay. The male, who is her age has a few patches, but over the past few weeks he has not gotten any worse. She is deteriorating rapidly. She IS active, yet her skin seems dehydrated, and she is getting pissy since she can't see.
Please reassure me! Does it seem mild? Am I over-reacting to a "normal" shed?
I have had Rachel, my 2 1/2' long girl for two years. She has NEVER had this happen to her. What am I doing wrong?
HELP!!!

Sounds to me like she is getting ready for a shed. Once she is finished, check her again. Both of my ball pythons get "patchy" when they are getting ready to shed.

Hope this helps.

I said she looks hydrated, then later said she doesn't. She has a sheen to her that healthy scales have, not dry looking, but her belly scales seperating and the folds she has when she bends her body make her look DEhydrated.
It is more of a feeling when holding her, along with the folds. It is ONLY a week since she ate, so it is not that she is starving.
Thanks again for any and all help!

But house your snakes separately. THIS IS PRECISELY THE REASON WHY!

been looking for a divider for my 150 gal. tank, but I can't seem to find one! I have some plexiglass from a repair job we did. I am going to have to make a permanent divider I guess.
I hope this has just been a shed scare and things will be fine. If so, I will chalk it up to a lesson learned (about housing snakes seperately) without a serious consequences!

Sounds like she is going to shed within the next 24 hours. Don't pick her up and fawn over her. I may be wrong, but if this is anything but a shed, chances are all three of your balls now have it because you decided to house them all together. Some people need to learn the hard way. Good luck though.
