I saw in a petshop yesterday

cychluraguy Jun 02, 2010 10:17 AM

Yesterday I stoped by a petshop that carries quite a few reptiles and in a tank with a retic and a berm it said in big colored lettere "DANGEROUS REPTILES" I knew the owner so I said why would you put that on there are you trying promote the dangerous steriotype of big snakes and she said that the FWC officer that comes in says they have to put it on the tank and they want them to put "dangerous Reptiles Inside" in the front window. I have never heard anything like this befor the roc permit was not about animals beind dangerous but potentialy damaging to the envoronment. Has anyone heard of this or is this FWC officer just pushing there own agenda?

This pet shop also sells chicks and ducks and is in the city limits and we were taliking about kepping chickens in the city and you can keep them in the city just no roosters. As far as other "farm" animals being restricted in the city it is to do with smell and flies and disturbing neighbors in confined living space. Reptiles are the only non nuicence non property distructing animals thay are being discriminated against by local ordanace just because of peoples personal prejudice.

to be a little more honest, and label them "potentially dangerous reptiles"?

If it was a regular pet shop, they could have a sign that says "potentially dangerous reptiles, dogs, parrots, and people inside" - if they want to be really honest, lol!

So true. Not a bad idea.

They can open a
brazil nut like a grape.

I know I have seen them do it. I would be way more afraid of a parrot than a boa.

maybe you could suggest that pet store owners say something such as " the FFW (or what ever the acronym is) says that I have to label these as dangerous reptiles but I think I'll let you be the judge." To me, it would cover what they require but still get the sarcastic point across.
