Zonata eggs. Good or bad?

mckenzieriverrep Jun 02, 2010 11:31 PM

One of the eggs, the molding one, was laid three days earlier than the rest. The other eggs look and feel different. You really have to see them in person to get a feel for them.

The picture makes it look like their are three good eggs and four bad ones, I guess I'll just have to wait and see... Or just candle them.

Here's the female after a heavy meal today. Her scales are all stretched from the eggs, a good shed and she'll be looking beautiful again.

I have a few eggs that look perfectly white and clean but I know they're no good. Use a penlight or mini mag and touch the light against the eggs in the dark of course. If they have veins or have a pinkish amber color they are probably good. If they light up like an empty light bulb with a more yellowish tint then it's infertile. You don't have to pick up the eggs at all, just leave them where they are. Many people think you have to shine the light under the egg, but you don't. Bad eggs don't always look bad from the outside. Also sometimes good eggs look really bad, lol.

i agree, 4 bad.. 3 good... But, from the looks things, if that were my clutch i would not feel good about those 3 either.. Just my opinion, i have been wrong before.. just ask my wife..

Good luck, keep us posted..

I talked to your wife today...from the sound of it you don't really know anything. haha

I candled them and the three look good! The other ones unfortunatly are duds. The three good ones have grown incredibly fast in their first three days, it really is remarkable.

I hope my other clutches are a bit better, I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks. I have a female right now that probably has 6-8 eggs, a large number for this locale. *cross fingers*
