gecko has slowed down on eating

newtoleos77 Sep 22, 2003 10:10 PM

I read down through the posts about how some geckos will cut down on their eating habits during season changes. I've had my leo for almost 8 months so I just wanted to check on a few things before I got too worried. He seems healthy and as active as he's always been, but he's cut down on eating, if I wave a mealworm in front of him he'll eat it, but just doesn't seem interested, and hasn't been eating any from his bowl. I havn't moved anything and he'll go to his bowl, but won't eat his food. He hasn't lost any weight, he weighs about 62 grams, I'm not sure of his length, but he doesn't look fat or skinny....he looks perfect to me, but I just wanted to check to see if something may be wrong or if it's just a seasonal thing. Thanks!

adult leos from time to time just want to be stinkers and worry their owners so they stop eating. It is perfectly normal for this to happen. They just go through cycles. I feed every other day to every three days this usually keeps mine fat and sassy and they don't usually slack off on the food. They can also sense the coming on of fall and will tend to kinda clean themselves out to prepare for the upcoming winter slow down. I would not worry unless you notice some major weight loss or stool problems.

Hi there
Unless your gecko is losing weight and becoming less active I would not worry. My gecko does the same thing from time to time and always starts eating again before weight loss. However, I did have to take him to the vet today for a check up because he stopped eating weeks ago and sarted to loose weight rapidly. But this is an extreme case and has never happened with him before. Agian just keep an eye on things and maybe try different foods and mostly likely before you know it things should be back to normal.
