Do garters bruise?

WebDragon8 Sep 22, 2003 10:10 PM

Hello all, just took my yearling eastern out to play, and I've noticed a discolored bluish blotch on him. It's about 2 inches long, halfway down the 12 inch snake, covering one side of the flank, and a little of the underbelly. The coloration appears to be intruding on the normal yellowish scale color. There is a bluish dent or scrape across a few ventral scales, like one you'd find across an apple skin. He doesn't appear to be in pain, I squeezed the spot a little and he didn't react. There is no solid mass there. He's been eating well and normally active. Do snakes bruise? Should I be worried about broken ribs, and if so, what can I do for the little guy? Thanks in advance!
