New gecko - starting eating good, now not!

spasmolytic Sep 22, 2003 10:12 PM

Picked up a beauty several weeks ago. The first few days she ate a fair amount of mealworms and a few crickets. Soon after she stopped showing any interest in food and wouldn't eat for a few days. Then I was able to get her to eat 1-2 crickets a day for a while, then she stopped again. A few days ago I picked up some wax worms, she ate 3 and no more since.
After I brought her home (didn't notice before), I noticed that she has a sort of bulge just north of her vent, it is very obvious when you hold her and she bends in certain ways. I have never seens this on any of my others. Is this a sign of anything? She also seems to have a sort of "bug-eyed" appearance, that I heard can be a sign of bad development.
Side notes - she was 17g when I got her, went up to 21-22, now back down to 17g. I'm no expert, but have 9 other geckos and all are in very good health. Keep the cage around 90 during day and keep it clean. When she eats, stools seem normal. But most the time they are runny, I'm assuming because she is just drinking and not eating.
I am trying to get her to vet, but there is only one vet around town who has a reputation for knowing anything about reptiles and he has been on vacation last week or so.

off to the vet as soon as you can I say. I don't know what that is but it does not look good. Is there a bruise on her one foot down by her ankle too. Her tail is mighty thin also. Don't get her near your other geckos please and wash and use hand sanitizer in between them. I am sure you probally already know about qaurantine but it must be stressed in this situation I would say. Good luck with her if you finda out anything on it please let us know.

She might have some impaction. My bf has a gecko with some bruising on her belling and very small amount of swelling. She was eating well and now she won't eat and she is losing energy. We took her to a friend who knows a lot and she said she probably is impacted and to get her to a vet as soon as possible. If your little guy isn't going to the bathroom then that may be it as well.
