Food size

Okay, so I just received my next shipment of rats for Eddie. I ordered medium rats for him, since he's been eating 2-3 small rats for the last year or so. Now, using the snake body width-to-rat size comparison, he should be just fine, but his head is so tiny. I'm thawing one now for him and I'm assuming he'll eat it okay. We all know how those Florida Kingsnakes are.

Fairly recent pictures of Eddie:

When I first got him:

He's a bit stretched-looking in those pictures... he had eaten about a day or so before I picked him up, so still had the rat lumps at the time. You can see the two bulges pretty easily in the last pic of "Big" Eddie.

do fl. kings seem to have small heads for their body size? Seems like most lampropeltis do...that could just be cause I'm more used to ones with heads wider than the neck though...like the boas. Dunno.

They do, its for foraging in leaf litter and burrowing. They're not much for climbing in my experience.

You got me thinking. I've seen both a Pygmy rattler and a coral snake in the wild farther off the ground (in bush, tree) than any of the kings I've seen (always solely on the ground). I even saw an eastern diamondbCk two feet up. Bush in a cPtive display.
