D. immitator productivity

ChrisV Sep 22, 2003 10:15 PM

Does anyone out there have any productivity information about thier immitators that they are willing to share? I am interested in hearing how long you have had your animals, the age they began to produce, the frequency at which they produce and there total offspring production. Thanks in advance for your replys.

I had animals that were heavy breeders live for around 5 to 6 years. I'm sure if they weren't breeding so much they could've lived a little longer, but you try and stop them... Output of eggs was normally a clutch a week, but that sometimes turned into a clutch every 4 days or so. Egg count is typically 2, but with my older females they would start laying 4 after a few years. The eggs did get smaller, but were just as healthy. I tried drying them out to stop them, but then they just ended up hiding the eggs better in more humid parts of the tank. I just kind of gave up on trying to stop them and let them go nuts. They bred best for me in a colony in a 50 gallon cube, but that's just me. I never had great luck with pairs alone.
Best,
Justin

Actually let me add that I didn't have great luck with pairs alone in small tanks. I was frustrated with one pair that wouldn't breed in a vertical 10, so I moved the pair to a 90 gallon that had some other frogs in it. They turned out to be super parents feeding eggs to the tads and produced very well. Sometimes change is great for our frogs.
Best,
J
