I'm new in Pituophis and would like to know which Pituophis double clutch?

I too am new to pituophis. Because the eggs the females produce are so big in relation to the size of the snake, and she has so many, I would not want to double clutch my females. This is just the opinion of a newbie. Some snakes probably can produce two clutches a year but I would be afraid of wearing out the females.

Although I have never bred pits but own many, EVERY pit breeder I know does not double clutch. With other snakes, people have what they call success with it, but with pits, since their eggs are so stinking huge, it really takes a toll on the females. I personally never double clutched any snakes back when I bred kings, milks, and corns regardless, but overall, that is the advice I have been given by many a pit breeder.

Plus, double clutching takes so much out of any female snake, they tend to not produce as long, in terms of total years, as well, per my knowledge, if double clutching is brought upon.

I have double clutched Bulls, Sonorans and San Diego gophers. Although not intentually, they just did on their own. I think they can and will if they are healthy and heavy enough. I do recommend double clutching in Pits.

here's some food for thought guys!!

Last season i planned to retire my F1 hi-red albino annectans, she'd reached 12/13 years old and was still very healthy looking. As her partner had passed away the following season I thought the time was right.

To shorten the story, come breeding time I went against my best made plan and put in a young male.I regretted it within 10 mins and went to remove the male.DOH!! too late already locked.

Unlike normal practice no more intro's made to her.

Backlog- this female has laid 100% fertile, ten egg clutches every season, all her breeding life (approx. 10 seasons)

Now for the point of interest here......fast forward two months and shes lays 11 fertile eggs!!.

As with all my females she is fed a small(appizer) meal once laid and is soon back on the standard feeding regimen.

NO extra food
NO Intros
BANG!! second clutch, 7 eggs ALL fertile.

Retirement? well there you go,she obviously had other plans LOL
