I don't know if the blog author, Stephanie Feldstein, is the same StephF that posts here, but in the interest of full disclosure I believe it appropriate that StephF should reveal her true identity in addition to any other animal related associations she may have.

did you read any of the related articles? I love the one making Ted Turner out to be Evil for taking the bison out of yellowstone.
I may not agree with Ted Turner's politics but his record of conservation work is exemplary. He has done extensive work on reintroducing the mexican gray wolf (Canis lupus baileyi) to the southwestern U.S. which is a project near and dear to my heart as the wolf is an important top predator to our native ecosystem the needs to be back in it's original range.
I also believe he is working with Bolson's tortoises (Gopherus sp....can't remember if it's bolsoni or not) at this time.
The story with the bison from yellowstone is that they were going to be killed. Ted Turner is going to redistribute them to others interested in Bison. From my understanding Anyone can get some if they want to but the criteria is you cannot kill the parent stock off for meat and a large percentage of the offspring are to go back to him to be used for restocking wild populations.
The resurgence of the american bison in this country btw is in no small part due to the efforts of Ted Turner so an article slamming him for the bison project is uncalled for.

Thanks for posting that. Explains a lot. Self proclaimed animal expert and environmental authority.

Explains nothing, actually.
Unfortunately your deductive reasoning lacks, well, reason. That is not me.

"Stephanie Feldstein is a Change.org Editor who has been part of the animal welfare and rescue community for over a decade, and most recently worked for an environmental organization."

No wonder you guard your identity so.

You never were any good at looking at the facts, were you Steph?

Gotta dance around reality with a bunch of unfounded assumptions as the basis for your position on whatever.

I can't take people seriously when it it so obvious that they don't know what they're talking about.

If you are so readily convinced that I'm Stephanie Feldstein based on such a paucity of pertinent information, then far be it from me to waste time and effort in convincing you otherwise.

Enjoy the delusion!

As much fun as this would be to attribute to Staph, the blogger is in Ypsilanti, Michigan, while our local Staph, from my memory, is in Virginia. And she's much calmer on the box turtle forum where no one seems to challenge her.

And sorry guys....Tom especially...lol...she's married.

Calparsoni Jun 04, 2010 01:52 PM

I feel sorry for that guy!!!!

What? You can leap to conclusions, but the rest of us can't?
Don't worry. I am enjoying the delusion.
Of course, you are always welcome to set the record straight.

Wow only 600,000 pet snakes? where do they get there numbers from if I were to guess I would guess 5 to 15 million or more. I would guess that 1/3 of the snake keepers keep over 10 and 5% keep over 100 and several hundred breeders keep over 1000. Don't they inport something like 250,000 ball pythons a year and i am sure thet many are bred here.

Yes I am sure there are alot more than 600,000 pet snakes in the US. Also the estimate I have most frequently seen was 50,000 to 100,000 Burms in the glades. Nobody really has an accurate estimate though and most sources(even pro ban) admit they really don't know. So many number have been thrown out there one could almost say whatever fits thier agenda, which is obviously what this blogger has done.

jscrick Jun 06, 2010 06:21 PM

The latest numbers I've heard is that there were 11 MILLION HOUSEHOLDS in the U.S. that kept Herps. And that the average number of herps in such a household was 5.5 on average. Someone please correct me if I got that wrong.

How many of those are snakes, I do not know. Bet you can't have just one.
