The nuchal striping is really attractive against that broken up pattern. M&Ms are my favorite kingsnake (remember when they called them M&Ms?) - look and feel like a montane king but are as resilient as a Cal king.

This is the species that got out of the snake bag in my Toyota 4x4 during one Summer. I found it inside the vehicle 2 months later, alive and well. That snake grew up to be a fat, thick momma.

Back in the day, you could get dark ones, light ones, inbetweens, red, orange, maroon, etc. All were one low price. And now, if there is any hint of darkness, price seems to go way up.

I thought so. I remembered the Woodstock head(Peanuts cartoon)under the stripe the last one has.

Yep...I remember M&Ms as well as SLPs and Potosi's.....LOL

I also remember longer nuchal stripes......I hope to work on producing some like I remember seeing pics of so long ago with almost 1/3 of their bodies striped.......

The reason for the price going up on the dark ones is because there aren't many Black Phase Mex Mex anymore....And now with the thought of mixing in the new Hypoerythristics and Granites they are even more desirable.....

Also...nearly all Black Phase Mex Mex can be traced back to Mr. Lloyd Lemke......

Has there ever been any breeding done to show if Black x Granite bred to another Black x Granite, will produce anything other than normal offspring?

I took a long look at them, and almost bought a pair from Ryan, but in the end, I went with straight black phase. Seeing how the babies weren't granite, and of course hadn't turned black yet, I couldn't force myself to pay the higher price. I couldn't really find any examples of it being done. So are you treating these as "double hets".

Brian,
As far as I know no one has bred a Black X Granite to a Black X Granite......
Next year I plan to as the ones I got from Ryan are growing great.
And no....these are not "double hets" because the Granite and Black phase are line bred traits.......I know there were some wild caught black phase Mex Mex, but when bred to a classic Mex Mex they produced "in betweeners".....Same goes for the granite phase.....
And....The granite that Ryan used wasn't a great example of the Granite potential.....Actually it was a rather weak example.....So I am going to mix in the totally speckled gene as well as some nice black ones.......We'll see what we get in the near future.....i can't wait to see the Hypo-E gene expressed on a tire black Mex Mex........
