Light breakers

elidogs Jun 05, 2010 01:29 AM

I built a new cage for my sav...he breaks the light bulbs now since he is in the cage with the lights. He broke one yesterday and another today. These are 8 dollar light bulbs not cheap to be breaking everyday.

He climbs the lights and slams them around like he is tarzan. He has not broke any of the cheap light bulbs only the expensive ones.

There is a drilled hole in the top of the cage that is one inch or so wide (for the chords).... I think he sees it and tries to see if he can escape from there. I don't know of anyway to stop this behavior?

What bulbs are you working with? I use

I use ones a lot like these for basking lights. My red spots(the weaker bulbs) are kept on 24/7 to keep the ambient temp up in the cage for the lizards.

About the gap you have for the cords, I would agree that your lizard has found a way out and is now determined to get out. A determined monitor will rip its face off to try to get out.Smart lizard.... fix the hole.

The last one he broke was a halogen 50 watt flood light made by GE. "Guaranteed for 2 years!" They obviously didn't test it on monitors.

Well you were right I laid some boards across those one inch holes and no more lights broken. Knock on wood. I hope I didn't just jinx myself!

Mine attacked one of his bulbs a few weeks ago too. I had some spare ceramic heaters so I'm using those instead now.

Yeah they are probably more durable then a light bulb.
