Egg Questions.

bombballz Jun 06, 2010 01:37 PM

I just found some eggs one of my females laid last night. My incubator is setup already with egg boxes and everything. My question is the eggs are stuck together they will not separate so im incubating them all together in a pile. The pile of eggs sits in my egg box which im using only water to incubate with 2 layers of light defuser so the eggs dont get wet. The top egg in the pile is level with the top of the egg box so the top will not go on without touching the egg. So I put a piece of plastic wrap on top of the egg box as a top. I know the plastic wrap wont seal air tight so I will have to check the water level daily so the eggs dont dry out. Thanks for any info...

I read it twice and didn't actually see a question...

Will the eggs be ok with plastic wrap sealing them and no top? The plastic wrap barely touches the top egg will this be a issue?

It shouldn't be as long as there isn't a lot of moisture on the plastic wrap that is coming in contact with that top egg.

Hey there, I set my egg boxes up the same way so I want to ask you this. If you took one layer of the difuser out would you be able to put the lid on without it touching the eggs? If you can what I would do is take the layer out and of course take out half of the water which wont leave you alot but you can just put a few drops in every couple of days. I am sure with one layer you could still get almost a cup of water in the 6 qt egg box and that would be fine just put some in every few days or once a week. Let me know if you keep a water pan in your incubator also. If you do it will of course help your smaller amount of water in the egg box to last longer. If you cant do it that way and you have to use the plastic wrap then make sure to tent it up somehow in the middle so that none of the moisture that collects on it will get on any of the eggs and hopefully runs down the sides. even though we need to try to keep the humidity at 100% or near you dont want any of the water or water droplets to be able to drip on the eggs. I hope one layer of difuser will do the trick, That would be the best fix. Jay from Sunny AZ

Can you use another tub that is deeper ? That would be the smart choice.

Otherwise, try removing some level.

Eventually, there will be water forming on top. If the water get's to the egg, it's not good. So that's why, you better get something where the wrap doesn't touch the eggs.
