Citrus X Orange Ghost Compatible???

dmasio13 Jun 06, 2010 08:17 PM

I bred a Spider 100% het orange to a citrus ghost female and came out with no ghosts. I know the spider is a true het he has proven out 2 previous seasons producing ghosts and honeybees. But the outcome was 1.2 spiders and 1.1 normal looking snakes. So what I want to know are these lines compatible? Ive heard yes and no. Thanks in advance

Yes the should be compatible, they are in simplest terms both simple recessive hypomelanistic

Actually I think Ian G proved them to be compatible with orange line and I think Chris @ Gulf Coast also did around the same time as well.. Originally it was thought to not be compatible but I think that was eventually disproven. Somebody correct me here if I'm off on this one!

They are compatible. I talked to Chris from Gulf Coast about if the Orange was compatible with the Citrus or not. He said when you cross them they come out awesome looking.

I bred my female Citrus Ghost last year to my proven Butter Ghost. 6 eggs, no ghosts! My Citrus ghost came directly from Gulf Coast and my Butter ghost came directly from Mark Bell. There were 3 butters that are hets for ghost and are wicked, something added to the pattern, but no ghosts. I'm keeping my female for a breeder, but don't plan to do another ghost cross. For my money, they aren't compatible. Good luck!

Hi Tom, hope all is well in your neck of the woods! BTW what line of Ghost was used for that Butter Ghost anyway? Seems you should have had better luck than that, are you sure no other male entered into the results?

Take care!

Hi Anthony: no other males for sure. The ghost was male butter ghost from Mark Bell, and I'm not sure which ghost he used for this, I think orange ghost. I may try it again next year with another ghost line and see. The citrus ghost female is beautiful on her own. See you around. Tom

Tom I think youre right. I didnt miss on my clutchs of spider het to het so its possible but not plausible for me to miss with my citrus ghost girl to my spider het male. But who knows

I know for a fact that the citrus is compatible with nerd orange. I also know that there have been compatibility issues with one line of ghost from the Bell's that looks exactly like the orange but has been bred to Nerd orange, citrus and Bell's butterscotch and not produced ghosts.
