That was too close!

My wife almost walked into this. Owchie. It flew up and started going nuts while she was 3' away or so. Sorta glad it did it *then* instead of when she was in range.
About 6-12" off the trail, mostly hidden under a bit of brush till Sandy got close. Insanely cranky, soon as she was near it flew up into a defensive posture, did a few strikes, and kept buzzing. probably 3' in length or a bit less, C. viridis.

1st box turtle, a much less dangerous herp

2nd box turtle, was eating

1st horned lizard

2nd, a subadult

more reports to TPWD incoming for the horned lizard and boxies. Apparently they're wanting people to report sightings...they may get sick of me before the season's done!

Thanks for submitting reports. We have several nature tracker programs that folks may not be aware of:

www.tpwd.state.tx.us/trackers/
www.tpwd.state.tx.us/boxturtles/
www.tpwd.state.tx.us/amphibians/
www.tpwd.state.tx.us/hornedlizards/

All of these programs depend on observations from folks like you. I am cranking up the volume on requests for people to participate and I hope we will have enough data to put out informative reports on a regular basis. In addition, herpers submitting reports is one of the best ways for me to demonstrate what an important resource y'all represent in terms of documenting the status of TX herps. BTW, I'm always happy to receive observations and data on other herps that we track. I can send you a list of all the species we track upon request. My addy is: andy.gluesenkamp@tpwd.state.tx.us
Herp On!
