Hey everyone,
It’s been ages since I’ve been able to post on here. My boa baby season finally got started today. I left for work this morning and no babies born yet. I came home this afternoon from work at around 5:30pm and found a litter of sunglows, albinos, hypos and normals. I know, I know, nothing new and groundbreaking, but I still say that finding any sort of baby boas is downright exciting.
Nothing like seeing little, squirmy baby boas taking their first breath.

Mom is a 2000 DH Sunglow X Sire(s) are 2005 Het Albino brothers. This is the Mom's third litter (she had some super sunglows for me in 2007, including a paradox possible super sunglow), and she was great throughout her gestation. The babies were born on day 105 POS. Final count: 13 Hypos 66% poss DH Sunglow, 6 Normals 66% poss Het Albino, 6 Albinos, 3 Sunglows, and 1 slug.
Unfortunately, there is some bad news. One of the hypos was DOA and one of the sunglows has a strange birth defect that I’ve never encountered with boas before.
This sunglow has what looks like a cleft palette. It looks pretty sluggish and so I don’t think it’s going to make.
However, the remainder of the litter looks healthy and full term with no yolk bellies.
Here are some shots of the entire litter when I found them and removed some layers of newspaper.
Here’s some “close-ups” of some of the litter.
Here’s a tub shot after removing the babies from the breeder rack.
Here are some shots of the albinos and sunglows.
Last but not least, the hypos 66% poss dh sunglow:
Hope you enjoyed. Mom is doing fine and she ate a XL rat with no hesitation.
Thanks for looking and good luck to everyone on the rest of the season.
Jay
