Medicating sick boa vid (Cinn update)

AbsoluteApril Jun 08, 2010 03:00 PM

I got some positive responses to a video I had made when I was giving Cinnamon, my poor sick boa, some of her medication so I figured I would share. As much as I hate seeing and showing her like this, I trully hope that this may somehow benefit someone else in the long run. This is for informational purposes only. Please seek qualified veterinary assistance if you have a sick reptile.

Cinnamon is currently still being treated with fortaz injections, she's been showing improvement and seems to slowly be getting better but there's still a long ways to go.

I hope you find this video helpful in some way.

Glad to hear she's still hanging in there and hope she recovers for you. Understandably I was not in the mood to watch the vid

Thanks Dave! I totally understand you not wanting to watch it right now. It's hard for me to watch as well.

Well at least you have a fun litter to play with tonight and I've got one due (well heck she's 2 weeks overdue!) so hoping I have some new babies to play with soon, get my mind off this other heart breaking stuff.
Have a good rest of the day!

So what was the vets diagnosis?

AbsoluteApril Jun 09, 2010 02:12 PM

>>So what was the vets diagnosis?

Not sure if you had seen the 2 or 3 other updates I had posted over the last month or so... but we are still trying to figure it out. Blood work was done. Vet believes it's a bacterial infection that bloomed when she became severely dehydrated. We're treating for parasites as well (he mentioned parasite could cause swelling on the brain). She has shown the most improvement after my failed attempt to give her a dose of fenben(w/10% pancur); I wasn't able to get the full dose down her throat; so after we're done with Fortaz will probably try the fenben again. If still not better, xrays will be done to check for spinal meningitis. IF still not better and we're out of options, then I'll have her euthanized for necropsy. My collection is of course currently closed until we figure it out.

I'm really glad to hear and see that she's improving little by little for you. Your doing such a great job by helping out with everything you can possibly do. I hope she pulls through for ya.
Take care,
JAKE

Thanks very much Jake! I really hope she continues to show improvement as well.. another shot tonight so we'll see. Been moving around her cage a lot more these last few days and sitting in nice normal boa coils instead of all sprawled out and with her head crooked.. so I'm hoping. I just leave her alone between the treatment days, she's been getting stressed enough.

Thanks very much Dan!

She's already doing better, I am thrilled! She's been flicking her tongue a lot more and moving better.. so seems like these current meds are helping. I'll post an update after the next vet appt. next week.

That is one awesome photo! Doesn't even look real, very nice!
