I found an adult female bull crossing a highway a few weeks back. She was a bit banged up so I took her home in hopes of putting some weight on her and letting her shed away the the injured portions of her skin.
Well....she dropped a clutch of 10 eggs on May 26th. She was a skinny 4-4.5 footer to begin with and to my surprise she produced some huge eggs.
She has since been returned to the nearby prairie in a much better condition and the eggs are cooking. I found a yearling male at the same location today.
Interestingly enough, she was not a Kankakee county specimen. Very cool color pattern on this type. Very dark yellow heads with broken banding and a really light colored midsection.
So I'm excited to see what the babies look like. The eggs are at 84-85...I'm expecting a late July/Early August hatch date.
Eggs pics will be up soon...and I'll see if I can get the pics of her off my phone.
