Any suggestions on how to lock a rack?

rj1204 Jun 09, 2010 12:33 PM

I have a 4 year old and 1 year old (human daughters)and they are always very curious. They are NOT allowed in my office/snake room but of course, that makes them want to go in there even more. The door to get into the room is a French door so it is very wide. I was going to put a large baby gate but just figured it would be more reasonable to put a door or lock of some sort on the rack. My rack is 72" high x 34" deep x 18" wide. I thought about putting a door on it and just making it wire with a wood frame. I also saw Ralph Davis has some kind of bar going up and down on his racks but I don't really know how I could make that work. Again, I know the best solution is locking the office but I know the door will accidentally be left unlocked on occasion and I just want to make sure the snakes are left alone. If you have any suggestions, I am all ears.....thanks!

What are the metal pieces? Where did you get them? I guess you unlock/take off the locks and just remove the piece of metal? That is pretty good.

You could always just add locks to the french doors. You can buy locks that go around handles, often used to child proof cupboards.

I have locks on the doors. I just want something just in case we accidentally leave the doors open or unlocked. Also, sometimes when we have guests over, we show them the house and leave the doors unlocked. The rack lock is just insurance for the snakes and kids.
