i would there is a point where they can drown in the egg i personally do not let them go past 55 days. but that is my preference and every one is different.

jeffk Jun 09, 2010 07:06 PM

Is your hatch rate 100% when doing that? What do u use to cut them?

jason Jun 09, 2010 07:23 PM

I cut when the first one pips or day 55, whichever comes first.

On day 50 I put a very small hole in each egg. On Day 57 the first one pipped. I then cut the eggs as pictured below. Everything hatched perfectly. I used a pair of cosmetic scissors I bought at Target. They worked fine. Make sure you sterilize them before use.

Regards,
Bill

Day 50 cuts for pipping.

Day 57 cuts above.

I just want to offer my congratulations! I just had my first eggs ever laid, so I am not qualified to give an opinion on cutting. Let's see photos when they're out!

jeffk Jun 11, 2010 05:44 AM

are poking out. i cut the eggs over a day ago and no one has decided to come out. keep waiting???

Amanda_D Jun 11, 2010 12:04 PM

If they are poking their heads out then they are breathing and should be safe from drounding. Now they need to absorbe their yoke. They will come out when they are ready. Just leave them alone and don't scare them so they "hide" in their eggs.

Sit back and resist the urge to poke them every 15 minutes.

I always put a slit in the rest of the eggs from a clutch after the first one pips. You know when the first one starts out that the rest of them should be done cooking too and its just my way of helping them out a little. Good luck on the rest of your Clutch. Jay
