Does anyone on here NEVER cut?

jsschrei Jun 09, 2010 07:41 PM

With all of the "should I cut" threads on here, I want to know if anyone NEVER cuts and has had good results. I do not plan to cut, but some comments I have read make me a little paranoid about "drowning in the egg". I don't plan to cut because I'd rather suffer the agony of waiting than possibly do something to risk losing a baby. I'd really be angry at myself if I did.

So, I'd love to hear from people that NEVER cut, or that don't cut until a certain point (that drowning is a concern, not cutting because you can't wait to see what is in them )

Thanks in advance!

I dont count the days like some do that have to cut into the egg after 50 or 52 days, a few days earlier than when they would hatch out on their own. I do however cut the rest of the eggs with just a slit after the first one pips just to help them out. I am sure these other guys know what they are doing when they cut out a huge window in the eggs a few days early but it just freaks me out to see all the yoke or whites still in there with them. Heck I just like waiting a couple more days and give them a hand once they have started out on their own. You know cutting into them early has got to have a little risk involved even with the guys that know what they are doing I would think and getting an early look is sure not going to change what comes out of those eggs 5 or 6 days later the way I see it.

Very good post Jay! Nature dictated that Ball python eggs take 60 days to hatch! Not 53, 52, 50 or I've even heard people cut in the 40's! I always cut after the first one pips, which is from 58-62 days! Common sense would tell you that if one pips, since they were all laid at the same time, they should all be ready!

I never cut, no losses. If they all hatch, and one egg is left unhatched, after like 60 days, I will cut it, but that is like 1 egg a year.

I was hoping to hear this from some people. My mind is at ease about the whole drowning in the egg and I'm sticking to my guns until the first pip!

I rarelt cut, I only cut when I want to know the odds with a friendly betting game with friends.
I have had babies hatch and shed before I even open the container.....no harm done....as a mattr of fact, they seem to do better as well....

vmreptiles Jun 10, 2010 08:46 AM

I've hatched out maybe 10 clutches so far, 4 more in the incubator, and I've never had to cut an egg that had a live baby inside.

I did cut one egg a few years back, the rest of the clutch had hatched and this one was still in the egg, it turned out it was severely deformed and dead in the egg.

My feeling is if they can make it in the wild, they can make it in the incubator! Best of luck!

I don't cut and my eggs hatch out without any problems.
