Gravid female question?????

asnakesview Jun 10, 2010 07:58 AM

We have a female reverse stripe that was bred by a salmon reverse stripe. No dates as the female came gravid to us on 3/24 and went right into HCP. She shed on June 4th and the mass of babies was towards the end of her tail. We were thinking that she would drop a day or two after shedding but now here it is the 10th and funny thing is the mass of babies has started to even out over the last 2/3 of her body.

Is this something anyone has noticed they do before dropping. We have only dropped 5 litters here so still new at this. Any help would be great. Sorry no pics but I don't want to bother her. She has been cruising for about 2 days now, crawling over her water dish, and just being super active even during the day. How is this sounding? This is my first litter (Zach), the others have been Matt's animals, so I am pacing to say the least. Thanks everyone in advance for their input. These almost sleepless nights are draining. Her neck is real skinny and I just want to get her back on food. She has not ate since 3/17 before she was shipped. We just hope that no problems arise.

Most females tend to re-distribute the babies to keep them from impacting at the vent. It's much easier for them to line up and come out one at a time. Be patient.

Thanks AJ. We appreciate the info. That was our thoughts as we were pretty sure we saw this activity in the last girls. Makes sense. We just thank you for your time to say this. We will post pics of the litter no matter the outcome. We think it is important for people to see the bad and the good in this hobby.

Zach, Im at the same point with my Suriname girl..... I start to worry myself about everything.... my girl has lost alot of weight on the front half of her body..... but the part where the babies are have distributed to be a nice even mass..... you can feel that she's full of fluid when you lightly palpate.... so thats a good sign I imagine....... and my female is kinking the end by the vent like she's trying to hold them in......

Has your girl started nesting yet?? Mine pushed the bedding all around and created a nice deppression on the cool side

Likewise here Mark. She shed on June 4th, and then has been very active and nesting since. Over the past two days the giant fluid mass has started to decrease drastically. Matt and I are thinking that this is the babies absorbing their yolks before getting ready to enter the world. What are your thoughts? Here are a couple pics I just took.

Not sure if you can tell anything from these pics but I was able to get a couple without bothering her.
