Golden corn (update) egg count.....

BlueKing Jun 10, 2010 12:11 PM

My last het just finished laying her eggs yesterday....Well, out of four hets plus the original golden corn (five females), I have 37 eggs. Unfortunately not all of them look fertile (according to my wife). She thinks about 10 of them are infertile due to their coloration/shape/size... But at least I have SOME fertile eggs this year! So I'm happy....
If some of you remember - last year was a disaster as my son got a little careless (with consolidated cage cleaning) and mixed up the marked/sexed individuals which resulted in pairs of females and pairs of males being put together. This resulted in ZERO fertile eggs last year and one peed-off individual!
I hope to get some pix of the eggs from my wife very soon!!!
I am still stuck in Afghanistan, but I have to admit, my son and wife have done a great job so far in my absence considering that I STILL have a good sized collection!

wow,
My ole' buddy Kin
How are you doing Kin?
I haven't talked to you in a while.
How are things on your end.
Things going decently here..
I cut back quite a bit this year, looks like I may only have around 100 eggs, give-or-take.
Good luck with everything

I'm doing good, jimmy. I am late breeding.... but that high end corn pairing I was going to do....I'm going to end up breeding more of my females with that male! I'm hoping to get my emoryi and albino emoryi breeding and my thayeri to breed too! I'll keep you updated on my high end pairs.... I'll give you a heck of a deal if you are still interested. I see your cream stripes are still as lovely as ever!

Hey Zee,
27 eggs, if 10 are bad, is still a hell of a lot better then
last season. That definitely increases the odds.
It always worries me when I think about what my wife would have to go through if I got sick or injured. She's never even touched a f/t mouse or cleaned an enclosure. You've got a great family.
Good luck, keep us posted and stay safe !!!!

Thanks.
Yes, the odds are DEFINITELY better!!!
And to think, 26 years ago my wife used to scream and jump at the sight of JUST a PICTURE of a snake... Now she holds my Corn snakes, King snakes, and even the big Indigos....(My son still handles the feeding and cleaning duties under her supervision) My wife HAS come a long way, though!

Awesome news! I was just thinking the other day what I would do if I got sick and couldn't take care of my collection. My wife probably could not do it and my son is too young and doesn't like reptiles much. He's a computer wiz, lol.

Thanks.
I'm blessed to have a great and tolerable family... But I do believe TRUE, UNCONDITIONAL love can be a very powerful motivator! So you may be surprised......Who knows??? I know at this point there are things I would do for my wife that I wouldn't have done for her 10 years ago!!! (We have been together for 26 years now, so that obviously helps) And of course my son's much increased allowance is also a big motivator to help keep my snakes happy!
