HELP! Missing Corn Snake!

jeffhcook Jun 10, 2010 02:42 PM

So I went to check on my 6-8 month old corn, to give him fresh water and feed him and....I CAN'T FIND HIM!!
I moved everything out of the aquarium and sifted through the substrate but I can't find him.
Does anybody have any advice that might help me locate him or a trick to lure him back to his "house"?
Right now I am assuming he is loose somewhere in my house!

Got anything in the near vicinity he can hide under? I had one get loose, and he only went about 15 feet away and hid under a towel that was lying on the floor. He's probably just looking for somewhere to hide that has the right temperature he's looking for, so check under any clothes or anything lying around. Just think of where he might want to hide and start checking.

First, make sure the snake isn't in its house... take everything out and look. If he's still not there, try to figure out how he got out and fix that problem! Some people have better luck at night.... keep the lights off and turn them on every 10-15 mins and look. Corns love to climb...look in bookcases, windows, even curtains! You can use a bottle trap with a mouse inside or even tape (use olive or vegetable oil to loosen tape) some use flour.... good luck finding him!

Thanks for the advice. So far I haven't seen the escapee. I am going to keep looking. Any advice will be appreciated...

baby corn snakes can get into very tight areas, so check cracks and tight areas around baseboards, even around the cage itself. Pretty much if its a quarter inch or bigger, there's a chance your snake can squeeze in.

Work from the top of his cage, checking around the lip of the cage, hood etc. Next anything within half the snake's length from the edge of his cage, check as well. if you house your snake in an aquarium on a stand, it will aim for the easiest way down or across. If in a container in a rack or on the floor, then it can easily head in any direction.

Snakes also tend to follow edges as well.

You can place a hide in a corner, with a thawed pinky inside to encourage it to come inside and eat and hopefully stay there. Make the hide nice and tight, even the same hide he had in his cage.
