Today was GREAT!

daneby Jun 10, 2010 10:39 PM

I found my 1st plains hog of the season today! I found her digging, she made 2 holes in the ground. I tried to get a pic of her digging but she spotted me too soon & started thrashing & hissing

Here are the holes. They were about 4 inches apart & 2inches or so deep.

I figured they were spadefoot holes & I was right, this guy was in one of them. These are my 1st ever shots of a spadefoot in the daylight.

More shots of the hog

Hey Dan,

Been wondering how you were doing lately.

Hard to beleive how fast hogs can dig, and with a toad as a reward I'm sure she was getting after it. Haven't found any hogs yet this year, did go out last Sun. (5 of us in Stillwater Co.) and found 6 or 7 pales, that was pretty fun.

Take Care

Rich

Wow Rich, thats alot of pales to see! I've still never seen one in the wild. I bet you guys had a blast. Things are pretty good arround here. Give me a call somtime so we can try to get together for some field herping. Take care.

With any other species, the number of pics might have been excessive... Not so with this one. That's effin' cool.

Do you know how far their range extends to the West? Several online sources say they can be found in WA, but I've never seen one and I can't find any good range maps.
