Red lip from White lip

Tormato Sep 23, 2003 07:05 AM

This story may sound far-fetched, but I feel is fun enough to share on this board. Maybe some can step forward and tell their stories.
Tonight, I noticed a couple of odd brown spots on my White lip's mouth. I turned my brightest light on and observed her head. You have to understand this python has never bit me so I feel pretty comfortable getting close to her if needed, like tonight. Anyway I must have had my mouth half open while inspecting these little brown spots on her face and all of a sudden Im facing her in the eyes and half of her mouth is in my mouth and the other half on top of my lip/tip of the nose (nice long head). My mouth had a weird salty taste to it for a second and my upper lip bled like a [bleep]. I instantly brushed my teeth and cleaned my lip off. I forgot to put the snake away-she was still in my hands acting like nothing happened. It really didn't hurt, I thought it would since the lips are pretty sensitive. I have no grudge against my python, it really wasn't her fault at all. I just wanted to share this stupid story since its late and Im punchy. But man this thing was so fast, I was actually looking at her face when she was done with biting me come to think of it. I still say White lips have the meanest looking head in the biz, and I say that in a good way. Very attractive animal. She might bite me some more but I don't care. Cool snake anyway. Im actually glad my biting reflexes are getting better, because its been a while since I've been bit and I wondered if I'd pull my hand out and rip some teeth out or drop the snake. Turns out these pythons bite and let go so fast you can pull your hand away as fast as you want but by that time the snake will have already executed its bite. Graceful creatures!

Might sound like a macho-man story for me to flex my ego, but it isn't at all. I just thought it was kinda funny. Any of you guys have any face-grabbing stories or just biting stories? My boa yawned tonight after feeding, and I can NOT imagine getting bit by 150 half inch teeth. Has anyone here ever been bit by a 9foot snake? A bite from an adult boa must require medical attention as it would be like 150 daggers going into you. Well, the brown spots turned out to be small particles of substrate funny enough, lucky enough.

Hi John,

nice little story So one more experience with on of these guys. Believe me, it won't get boring with these pythons and the more you get to know about them the more you'll love them!

They are very fast indeed, but yet I've been faster most of the time but my first large male wlp (a wc animal) once nailed my hand and it did hurt.
It wasn't really the bite itself but more the power of the strike going *bang!* and then it bleeded like hell...from that time I always used gloves to get him out of the cage. The day I was moving to another flat I packed all the stuff away and at last I wanted to get the animals out of their cages and take away the cages too. My big one was tightly wraped around the cage of the light bulb and my gloves were already packed away...well, I just opend the door, grabbed him and tried to get him off there. He didn't even hiss at me and I was able to just put him into a bag. These day when I change a broken bulb or so they watch me very carefully but they don't hiss and strike. They just watching what I am doing...

I love these animals!

Cheers,
Wulf

btw.: Did you get the email?

It's been about 15 years since this happened, but I still have to laugh a bit when I think about it. When I was in college I had a wild-caught boa about 7 feet long which we named (aptly) Sid Vicious. Sid wasn't the friendliest boa, and spent most of his time looking for something or someone to bite. I was, of course, convinced he was just misunderstood, and figured he'd calm down with enough gentle handling. So I routinely took him out, often with gloves, to "socialize" him. During one of these sessions, Sid seemed to have calmed down and was curled rather benignly (I thought) in my lap. I was watching TV and my guard was totally down when he caught me square in the mouth. I felt like I'd been punched, and he managed to catch me twice more (on my gloveless hand and my leg) before I could put him back in his cage. By this time, blood was running (not dripping) off of my chin and I looked a bid comical. Fortunately, he didn't bite down, so his teeth just cut me and didn't rip at the skin. It was like getting 50 razor nicks at once. A bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a little ice, and I was as good as new. I never managed to tame that snake.

hahaha those are both great stories. Snake bites are pretty filthy too, and my lip throbbed a little afterwards, probably infected ha. Last night my green tree python bit me, but very very lightly. I coudlnt even feel it. It was almost like a warning...I looked down and her mouth was still on my thumb not appliying any pressure. Funny little snake.

Not a face bite story, but a friend of mine was bitten on the calf by an 8 foot retic-she ruined a $500 tattoo.
