I had a pair breed after the first winter after their first year. I kept the pair together cause they were so small, and I did not expect them to breed at all. This was many years ago and now I know better, but I think males can probably breed after one full year. They may not give the best results but they can do it. The bigger problem would be younger females cause they have to pass those eggs.

a male can breed at 18 months maybe even younger...you'd be surprised.
by the way the 3 ft 300 gram "thing" is a suggustion or a simple guideline, It is not a rule. Some snakes are smaller then others.
AND I doubt there is one wild corn out there that has ever read these "rules".

LOL! I know. I am just looking for basic guidelines. Especially for the females since there is more at risk to their health with breeding.

But, if a bunch of folks posted on here, for example, that if you breed the male under 2 years old, or a certain length, you never get a fertile clutch....then I have an idea of what not to do

Thanks for your info!

You are 100% correct....If everyone we could talk to told us that every time they bred a male under two years of age or under 250 grams they ended up with infertile eggs, even with proven females, then it would be something to listen to. I haven't really seen that, though.
More often I see things such as not brumating or too high of temps being more of problem then size. Of course this is with healthy animals not animals small due to malnutrition or health problems. I've got adults that range from 32 inches up to about 54 inches.
I believe they can breed much smaller and younger then we allow but I also believe it is always better to give them time to mature physically, there are some that just stay small and don't really fall into the size requirements. If I have a smaller female that eats regularly and is healthy, I will just wait until her third season to breed her.
